• Plantronics Bluetooth Headsets

Plantronics is no newcomer to the field of lightweight communications headsets. They began producing such headsets back in 1962. It was a Plantronics headset that carried Neil Armstrong's words-"That's one small step for man"-from his helmet back to the Lunar Excursion Module and from there back to earth. For over 40 years, Plantronics has been perfecting the design, manufacture, and marketing of lightweight headset while adapting those designs to respond to new technology.

The newest and most exciting innovation to hit the headset market has been the introduction of Bluetooth technology. Plantronics has been right there, adopting and adapting the technology to use with their headsets. Bluetooth and headsets are a perfect fit. Bluetooth is inexpensive and lightweight, so adding the technology doesn't add a huge amount to the bottom line or to the weight on the user's ear. In fact, the weight of the Bluetooth chip is much less than the weight of the wires hang down from a standard headset. The headset ends up weighing less while eliminating the wires at the same time.

Plantronics offers excellent choices for Bluetooth headsets in the $70 to $100 range. Or, if you need a higher powered headset with a range of a hundred yards, they offer a solution for under $300.

The inexpensive Bluetooth headsets have the standard Bluetooth range-10 meters (33 feet). That's all you need if you'll be carrying your mobile phone around with you on a belt clip, or in your pocket, backpack, or purse. (Since Bluetooth uses radio frequencies, it isn't bothered by the phone being completely hidden from view.)

A $70 Plantronics Explorer 320 Bluetooth headset weighs only 2/3 of an ounce and gives you up to 8 hours of talk time without recharging. It sits easily and comfortably in either ear, allowing you a full day of talking if you desire. All the controls can be accessed with the touch of a button.

A $100 Plantronics Voyager 510 gives you up to 6 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby. Ultra-light, this Bluetooth headset weighs in at approximately half and ounce. The microphone features noise canceling technology to make sure that the person on the other end hears you and not the buzz around you. The headset folds for easy storage.

For just under $300, you can expand the range of your headset 10-fold. With the Plantronics CS50 headset, you can wander 100 yards away from the phone its connected to and still enjoy a clear connection. This headset gives you up to 8 hours of talk time.

Plantronics is a publicly held company headquartered in Santa Cruz, California. It has offices in 19 countries and its products are available worldwide.
