• Plantronics Discovery 640

The Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth headset comes in a stylish 6 by 3 by 1 inch case with a mirror on the back. This holds the headset itself as well as all the accessories.

The first thing you notice may be the smaller carrying case within for transporting just the headset. Or you may notice the belt holster. Or maybe the charger. They're all the same thing. A series of small tubes snaps together to form something about the size of a marking pen. The headset fits inside for carrying. The tube has a clip for use as a belt holster. And the tube functions as a charger as well.

The headset is a cylinder shaped to curve around the ear. The whole thing is thin enough to hide almost completely behind the ear. It weighs on three-tenths of an ounce. The earpiece can fit directly in either ear with a rubberized ear gel and can be worn with an ear hook or without. Many users find the fit secure and quite comfortable without the ear hook, so they dispense with it.

Besides the charger already mentioned, Plantronics includes two other charging methods. You can charge the headset with a AAA battery fitted into the cylindrical holder. The case comes with your first battery which should be good for two full charges. But that's not the only other way to charge this headset.

You can also charge the Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth headset from a Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Siemens, or Motorola phone using an included adapter. The adapters are less than an inch long and snap into the bottom of the carrying case. You can use the same charger for both your phone and the Discovery 640 headset. If you forgot to bring your own charger, borrow someone else's!

The pairing process for this headset is simple and intuitive. You'll be connected to your mobile phone and talking away in no time. The controls are small but well placed and easy to access.

The audio quality on this headset is very good, with an excellent top volume. You won't feel underpowered and you won't hear much static. The caller on the other end will be able to hear you clearly. Windy conditions may reduce the call quality a tad, but you'll still be able to hear and understand what the other party is saying.

The rated talk time for this headset is 5 hours with the charger and up to 15 hours using the AAA battery. Standby time is 3 days.

User reviews for the Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth headset have been quite positive. Many owners say it is the best Bluetooth headset they have tried. And the price isn't too bad either. You can expect to find one of these headsets for under $100.
